Just a few hours to freedom

It’s snowing, which is code for, “Hurry! Run outside between classes and throw snowballs at the classroom windows!”

It’s finally come, December 20th, the last day of school before 16 GLORIOUS days of no real-life responsibilities. I love my job and almost all of my kiddos, but it’ll be nice not to have to yell, “language!” across the classroom or respond to requests like, “Can I go get Joe’s jar of pickles out of my locker?” with a straight face.

Here are today’s lesson plans:
1st, 2nd, 4th periods: Sophomores

  • Turn in essays
  • Play winter-themed hangman, Christmas charades, or Christmas Pictionary
  • Don’t kill each other
Say this 1,000 times, "No, you can't go outside and have a snowball fight."

5th: Freshmen

  • A final test on The Odyssey (I don’t trust this rowdy bunch enough to cut them any slack)

6th: Honors Freshmen

  •  Turn in essays
  • Try to survive the 45 minutes until freedom by NOT killing each other or annoying me

And here are my plans for break:

  •  Move into our new house (We’ll OFICIALLY be homeowners on the 27th! Merry Christmas to us!)
  • Unpack and set up our very own house
  • Read trashy romance novels
  •  Bake cookies
  •   Be happy
  •   Sleep in as much as I want
  • Drink excessive amounts of peppermint-flavored drinks
  • Turn 25 (...eeek!)

Merry Christmas!

The three most noteworthy things I’ve heard in the last 24 hours.

1: Declared by a random boy in the hallway: “Me and my girlfriend: we had consensual sex!"

Congratulations. I’m sure she’s thrilled you’re sharing that information with the world!

2: Asked by a semi-obnoxious yet often amusing sophomore boy: “Can I have your blessing to go to the bathroom?”

I’m not sure I’m qualified to give bathroom blessings, but his request was so unique that I did not refuse him.

3: Announced by a freshman girl as she got into class: “My shoes fart!”

When we get to poetry, she’ll probably ace the personification part.

The closer we get to winter break (10 alarm clocks away!) the weirder these kids get.

Let's do this thing.

After abandoning this place for far too long, I've decided to take up blogging again. I discovered Love, Teach, a FANTASTIC teacher blog last week, and it inspired me to start this up again. It also inspired me to ask my parents if I had a long-lost sister who lives a parallel life because after reading, laughing, and giggling for two hours while reading her posts, I decided that we must be related. I'll be posting all kids of things relating to my thrilling life as a teacher, and if you don't do sarcasm, then you probably shouldn't come back to read any of my posts because you'll inevitably think I'm a terrible person and shouldn't be teaching kids.  BUT if you do enjoy sarcasm, the antics of high school children, and a real-world view on classroom teaching, then I hope to see you back!
